Liverpool’s Elliot Set for Ankle Surgery

Liverpool starlet, Harvey Elliot, has suffered a serious ankle injury, and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher and taken straight to hospital during the Reds’ 3-0 win against Leeds United on Sunday, 12 September.

The 18-year-old forward went down awkwardly in the 60th minute of the game, after a strong tackle from Leeds defender, Pascal Struijk, who was dismissed immediately.

A visibly upset Jurgen Klopp delivered an emotional post-match interview, confirming the extent of the injury and sharing his frustrations that a red card doesn’t compensate for an injury.

He said: “It’s a bad injury. I heard he had dislocated his ankle. He’s in the hospital. I couldn’t care less [if it was a red card], it is not my business. It is a serious injury, definitely for an 18-year-old boy. The red card is not important. Two or three weeks we can play on, Harvey will not.”

He added: “We’ll play without him, but we will wait for him as well because he is a top player.”

The club has confirmed that Elliot has been discharged from the hospital, however, he will have to undergo surgery in the coming days – and he will be sidelined for a long period of time.

The teenager took to social media to thank Liverpool fans for support and assure them that despite feeling “devastated”, he is already focused on returning “faster, fitter and stronger”.
